Talking Cars 408: Driving the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek
Plus, we give advice to a new teenage driver looking for a car that has all the best safety features . . . and a manual transmission
Main theme: In this podcast episode, we give our first driving impressions of the updated Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV. The company made some subtle changes to this popular model, including improving the chassis and redesigning the interior.
The new model gets Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist system as standard equipment, which now includes automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection. However, blind spot warning is still optional.
We discuss the Crosstrek’s improved ride and reduced noise levels, as well as how much more comfortable the seat is. However, all agree that the controls took a step backward, such as the climate system, which now hides often-used settings in touchscreen menus. They also lament on some obvious cost-cutting measures that Subaru imposed on the Premium model we drove.
And while the new Crosstrek gets some subtle styling updates, we bet even the most dedicated Subaru fans will hardly notice. So the new model really looks and feels a lot like the last model—but that’s not such a bad thing.
