This online-only mattress-in-a-box retailer has a 30 percent discount on its mattresses, including its namesake mattress, the GhostBed, which is worth a look. The deal also includes two free pillows, a common extra when buying directly from a mattress brand.
The queen-size GhostBed does well in our tests for supporting petite people who sleep on their back, and it earns top marks for durability, which means it shows little change in performance after 8 to 10 years of simulated use in our tests.
Why it’s a good deal: This is the first time this mattress has dipped below $998 in nearly a year, marking the biggest discount we’ve ever seen. CR members may even be able to save a little bit more—just log in to see the details.
The Essentia Stratami serves petite and average-sized back sleepers best, earning a top-tier rating in terms of support. (Large/tall back sleepers and side sleepers of all sizes will experience decent support, too, given its nearly as impressive scores in those categories.) It’s only 8 inches thick and has a firmness-scale score of 6 out of 10, similar to that of the all-foam Casper. The Essentia is the only mattress from our top-four innerspring and foam lists to receive a top rating in both owner satisfaction and reliability, according to data from our CR members survey.
Why it’s a good deal: This is one of the most expensive mattresses in CR’s ratings, so this sale presents a worthwhile opportunity. The 20 percent discount will automatically apply at checkout.
If you’re looking for a softer mattress that offers support, the Nolah Natural mattress may just fit the bill. It gets above-average ratings for people of all sleep styles and sizes, and it shines when it comes to durability. The only place it falls short is in stabilization, where it gets middling scores in CR’s tests.
Why it’s a good deal: Nolah’s spring sale takes 20 percent off the list price. We’ve seen this mattress sell for as little as $1,329, though, so you may be able to save more if you wait for Memorial Day when discounts tend to be bigger.
The Puffy Lux Hybrid innerspring/foam mattress-in-a-box comes through with above-average support for nearly every size and style of sleeper. The exception: large and tall back sleepers. The durability is impressive, but stability is just average, which could leave sleepers feeling vibration from a partner’s movements. And this model doesn’t make shifting sleep positions easy. With a firmness rating of 1 out of 10, it’s quite soft.
Why it’s a good deal: The code SAVE1350 takes a whopping $750 off the list price of this mattress, matching the low price on Black Friday. If you’re a digital CR member, log in to save just a bit more.
Avocado makes some top-notch mattresses, and this sale is a great chance to save on one. (The Green usually goes for $1,999, and the Green Pillowtop is priced at $2,499.) Both Avocado mattresses support a wide range of side- and back-sleeper body types. On our firmness scale, the Avocado Green is very firm and the Green Pillowtop is medium-firm. Right now you can save 10 percent on a mattress by using the code PLANET at checkout.
Why it’s a good deal: This is the standard discount we’ve seen for the Green mattress. What’s more, CR members may be able to save a little more through an exclusive offer for digital members only.
Bear Mattress is still offering 25 percent off sitewide for spring. A mattress purchase will also get you two Cloud pillows, a sheet set, and a mattress protector at no extra cost. The company typically only includes pillows outside of big sales like this. Just use the code SPRING25 at checkout.
The Bear Original foam mattress performs well in our tests, and it’s a good choice for back and side sleepers who are petite or of average height. (Tall folks may want to look elsewhere.) CR’s tests found that this mattress tends to retain heat, so it may be best for those who sleep cooler.
Why it’s a good deal: This mattress is back down to the best price we’ve seen, making it a great time to buy.
If you’re sick of synthetic materials, this is a good time to consider the Birch by Helix Natural mattress, which is made with materials like cotton, wool, and natural latex. Birch’s extended Presidents Day Sale is going strong; you can take 20 percent off sitewide with the code SPRINGSALE20. This hybrid innerspring performs well in our tests for most sleepers, getting its highest scores for support when it comes to petite back sleepers. It also tests superbly for durability and stability.
Why it’s a good deal: This is a solid discount. It has been as much as 25 percent off, though, so you can usually save about $90 more if you wait until a holiday weekend like Memorial Day.
Finding the right mattress for how you sleep can be tricky, but in our tests, the Midnight Luxe is a great choice for people of all sizes, whether they sleep on their back or side. One thing to note about this mattress is that it’s 14 inches high, so you’ll need deep-pocket sheets. When you use the code SPRINGSALE20, you’ll save 20 percent sitewide, including for this mattress, and you’ll get two free pillows.
Why it’s a good deal: The current sale price is decent if you’re in need of a mattress now. But it isn’t quite as good as we’ve been seeing. During Presidents Day, Helix was offering 25 percent off, putting the price just below $1,800, a discount you may not see again until Memorial Day.
The Solaire mattress by Saatva is made with certified organic materials, a plus for those who prefer that their bedding be organic and don’t mind the cost. It offers impressive and stable support for all sleepers. Saatva air mattresses also receive high praise for both comfort and owner satisfaction in our member survey.
Why it’s a good deal: Saatva’s Tax Refund Weekend Savings Event puts this mattress back at the best price we’ve seen.
