Talking Cars 401: Driving the 2023 Lexus LX600
Plus, how soon will traditional gas stations be phased out in favor of EV charging locations?
Main theme: Redesigned for 2022, the Lexus LX600 takes the latest Toyota Land Cruiser (not offered in the U.S. market) and wraps it in a posh, upscale package. The new LX remains a big and burly body-on-frame SUV with loads of luxury and plenty of off-road capability. But the big news is the switch from the long-serving V8 to a much smaller, twin-turbo V6 that actually produces more horsepower.
We share our first impressions of this large three-row SUV, discussing the ways that the new powertrain is better and the ways it’s worse, why second- and third-row comfort is surprisingly lacking for such a big vehicle, and who actually buys a $110,000 SUV? We finish things off by each making a case as to whether we’d buy the new LX if we had the money. And if we wouldn’t, which SUV would we buy instead?
Audience question: How quickly do you see the transition from gas to electric happening? And do I have to worry about not being able to find a gas station to fill up my brand-new BMW Z4?
